Travel & Exchange Programs

Connecting Lives. Sharing Cultures.  Whether you want to go abroad for a month, a semester, or a year, AFS has programs to fulfill your dreams of adventure and discovery.  They offer programs of various lengths and destinations.

A year away can’t be measured in days alone. You’ll only be gone for a school year but the experience will enrich the rest of your life. Living in another country for a school year is something most people never have the opportunity to do. You’ll return with new knowledge, cultural understanding, maturity and lifelong friends from your host country. The hardest part will be leaving your ASSE host family. They will have shared in your adventure and learned from you as will you have from them.  If you don’t want a full year program, ASSE also offers summer and 3 month programs.

Motivate.  Experience.  Inspire.  MEI International offers a variety of summer programs,  semester programs & gap year programs.  One of their programs is a 40-day 2-course summer program in the Mediterranean with an academic focus on English/Literature and Media Studies.  The MEI Gap Year program is designed to provide you with a year that balances academic structure and stimulation, with adventure and athletics.  The gap year program provides students with the opportunity to earn credit in 8 high school courses while traveling the world, visiting destinations including New York, Beijing, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Nepal, Mumbai, Paris, Switzerland, and more!

The RedLeaf program is an option for Grade 9 or 10 students who want an exchange to Spain, Italy, or France.  European students will arrive in late August or early September. They will return late in November after a three month period. Each student will be enrolled in their partner’s school and is expected to attend classes and to take part in the activities offered.  Canadian students will travel to Europe in mid February, will be hosted in their partner’s home and will attend their school. They will return to Canada in mid May.

Learn about university programs abroad.  The website will also direct you to information regarding international internships, volunteer programs, work abroad programs, adventure travel, and language learning programs.

The YMCA Summer Work Student Exchange is a unique national exchange program that brings together youth from various communities across the country. Participating youth, aged 16 and 17, have the opportunity to improve their second official language skills, and gain important employment experience through a work placement while on their exchange.

In 6 short weeks over the summer, participants go on a journey that will forever impact their life. Learning more about themselves, discovering another part of Canada and the people that make up our great nation, taking on new challenges, making new friends and, having so much fun, participants agree this experience is THE JOURNEY OF A LIFETIME!
