Art Studio 11 (MVAST11)
This general art course reviews and advances the foundations of art. Students will be involved in developing and refining their own imagery with advanced studio techniques. Investigations of historical and contemporary art trends will be undertaken. Drawing, painting, graphic arts, print-making and three-dimensional work can be the basis for studio work. A sketchbook is required and is an active part of the program. There is an opportunity for students with advanced capabilities to be involved in special projects.

This course is for students who wish to continue their education in art in several areas of visual expression at an advanced level. Students will work in a studio atmosphere in solving individual problems in developing art imagery. Students will be expected to take an active role in shaping the process of their art education. Investigations of historical and contemporary art trends will be undertaken. A sketchbook is required and is an active part of the program.
Entrepreneurship 12 (MENT-12)
Have you ever had a great idea for an art product that you thought you could sell? In this “Concept to Cash” basis course, develop, create and sell art products. Students will research market trends in art objects and sustainable and environmental methods of creating and marketing products. Individually and in a team model, students will create business plans, design art objects, and create products that are unique, ethical and consider environmental impact. There will be opportunity for larger collaborative projects. Students will promote and market their products in a variety of settings that may include in school “pop up” markets, online, and community craft sales and markets.
Graphic Arts 11 (MVAGA11)
Graphic Arts 11 is an opportunity for motivated students to begin the challenge of developing a complete studio art portfolio. The focus of the course is to hone skills and studio independence working towards beginning a portfolio through the exploration of a variety of media. This course will also help students begin the process of developing an individual area of focus in the visual arts. A sketchbook is an integral part of this course.
Graphic Arts 12 (MVAGA12)
If you are interested in taking a personal challenge for excellence, then this is the place for you! The development of a portfolio is your chance to pursue media and concepts in a self-directed studio setting. This course will provide you with the opportunity to research post-secondary visual arts programs, improve your technical skills in a personal area of interest and build a personal and unique body of work. Your completed portfolio may be used for application to post-secondary institutions and scholarships or your Capstone project. This course is not limited to students pursuing Visual Arts at post-secondary, it is open for any student wanting to develop their creative brain.
The three big ideas of the portfolio development are:

Marketing & Promotion 11 (MMAP-11)

Photography 10 (MVAPH10)
Does the world around you capture the inner photographer within? In this fast-paced, multi-faceted course, you will learn the basics of Photography. You will become part of the Yearbook Staff working in one or more of the following areas; design, photography, digital art, journalism and/or advertising. You will play an integral role in creating a memorable Yearbook that your fellow classmates will cherish for years to come. You will learn the following basic skills necessary for publishing a yearbook such as; page design and layout, creative and skilled photography, journalism, copy writing and editing, graphic design programming (Adobe Photoshop, Canva) word processing, advertising and distribution. You will learn basic photography techniques such as; setting an advanced camera, design elements, composition, posing, lighting, aesthetics, creative and artistic techniques, using props and editing (Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Lightroom). You will learn basic digital art by completing projects using original and stock photos to create unique Digital Art pieces. Your final project is to build an online portfolio-based website using the following web design program Wix.com.

Do you want to continue to develop your Photography skills? Using the basics, you learned in PHOTOGRAPHY 10 you will learn intermediate skills in Photography in a project-based environment. Using weekly studio time, you will develop a professional website to showcase your collection of photos and digital art. You will become part of the Yearbook Staff working in one or more of the following areas; design, photography, digital art, journalism and/or advertising. You will play an integral role in creating a memorable Yearbook that your fellow classmates will cherish for years to come. You will develop intermediate photography techniques such as; setting an advanced camera, multiple lenses, advanced composition and design principles, posing, lighting, aesthetics, creative and artistic techniques, using props and editing (Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom). You will complete more complex Digital Art projects. Your final project is to build an online portfolio-based website using the web design program Wix.com.
Photography 12 (MVAPH12)
Learn to refine your photographic skills and techniques related to various styles and genres and get creative in resolving photographic challenges. Further your ability to create photographs for a specific purpose and that reflect personal, cultural, social, environmental, and historical contexts. Master the use of multiple lenses to enhance your photographs. Examine your relationships between photography, culture, and society and explore educational, and professional opportunities in photography and related fields.
Studio Arts 2D 11 (MVAD-11)
This is an advanced level course concerning two-dimensional work only. The major focus of the course will involve drawing and painting as well as graphic communications, relating them to the development of personal imagery. Students should be prepared to work independently in solving problems related to the development of imagery. A sketchbook is required.
Studio Arts 2D 12 (MVAD-12)
This is an advanced level course concerning 2D work only. This advanced studio course invites students to explore imagery in drawing/painting and graphic arts. Take the challenge – come and work in a studio atmosphere and explore your potential. Purposeful artistic choice to complete the development of a portfolio can be part of this course. A sketchbook is an integral part of this course.
Studio Arts 3D 11 (MVAC-11)
This course is for students who wish to work at an advanced level in art, specializing in three-dimensional work. The focus is on the process of sculpture, exploring tools, equipment, set design, theories of sculpture and the language of this art form. Materials introduced and explored could include clay, wood, cardboard, paper, found objects, scrounged bits….and anything else we can lay our hands on! A sketchbook is required.
Studio Arts 3D 12 (MVAC-12)
This course is for students who wish to continue their art studies at an advanced level, specializing in three-dimensional studio work. The focus of the course is the exploration of the process of three-dimensional design, expressed through a variety of media. Previous experience is NOT required. The process of designing three-dimensional works of art will be emphasized. A sketchbook is required.
Visual Arts: Art Studio 10 (MVAST10)
This course advances the study of the foundations of art and introduces a variety of new media. Students will be involved in drawing, painting, graphic arts, sculpture, ceramics and photography using everything from pencil and paper to anything they can get their hands on. They will be encouraged to challenge themselves through new media and greater independence in the studio setting. A sketchbook is required.
