Psychology 11 (YPSYC1A)
Why do we behave the way we do? Open to all Grade 11 and 12 students, this course serves as an introduction to the field of Psychology, the study of the human mind and behavior. Some of the topics to be covered include psychological disorders, theorists, the human mind, personality development, childhood & adolescent development, conditioning and motivation. Students will learn about themselves and those around them by studying the attempts to explain and predict why people behave, think and feel as they do. This is an academic course that will include readings, assignments, experiments, presentations, term projects and unit tests. Psychology courses do not qualify as senior social studies courses for the purpose of meeting the graduation requirements. They are elective courses only.
Psychology 12 (YPSYC2A)
This course will cover issues which include research methods, human development, motivation, personality, social psychology, psychological disorders, biopsychology, sensations and perceptions, as well as, stress and health. This academic course includes readings, assignments, projects, quizzes, presentations, participating in experiments, and performing experiments. This is an excellent course for students who may wish to pursue post-secondary studies in the Social Sciences as a basis of training for the numerous opportunities in the world of work. Psychology courses do not qualify as senior social studies courses for the purpose of meeting the graduation requirements. They are elective courses only.
