Drama 10 (MDRM-10)
This is a fast-paced introductory course. In first term, students will develop their skills and have a great time through theatre games, improvisations and scene work. In second term, the focus shifts to encompass play building, scripted scene work and characterization. Beginning Drama 10 has proven to be a very popular course over the years. Students have fun and learn a lot. Bring energy! Final performance for the public at the end of semester. Some out of class rehearsals are required.
Drama: Theatre Company 10 (MDRTC10)
This program is for students who have taken Drama 10 and are looking to advance their skills. It moves easily from theatre games, mime and improvisation to the “heart of acting” character work. Students will also create their own scenes and short plays. This challenging, enjoyable course leads to a wide variety of options for Grade 11. Final performance for the public occurs at the end of the semester. Some out of class rehearsals are required.
Musical Theatre 10/ Vocal Music (MMUTH10/YVPA-0EVM)
This course is designed as an introductory course into the wonderful world of Musical Theatre. Students will explore the components of Musical Theatre and most aspects of production and performance techniques. Singing ability is not a requirement for this course, but time will be spent on vocal training. This is a project-based course. Juniors will work with senior students to develop a quality performance for the public at the end of the semester. Please Note: This is a course that requires commitment for successful completion. After school rehearsals in May and part of June are mandatory. COURSE NOTE: Students in Musical Theatre 10 will also study, and be registered in, Vocal Music 10 (YVPA-0EVM). Vocal Music 10 (YVPA-0EVM) This is a great introductory course for learning to grow your confidence and skills in vocal music. Technical skills, strategies and health and safety issues will be explored and applied as students rehearse and perform repertoire for a musical theatre project. *This course is paired with Musical Theatre 10 and is conducted outside the timetable.
Film 10 (MVAM-10FLM)
This is a great introductory course to take if you are interested in the art of film making. Basic concepts from pre-production to post-production of short films will be covered through many hands-on team projects.
Film 11 (MDFT-11)
If you ever dreamed of making movies or if you have ever wondered what it would be like to make movies, this is your chance to explore the incredible, powerful world of filmmaking. This course will introduce young film makers to camera techniques, film script writing, acting for the camera and editing. It will take students step by step through the process that creates a film from an idea.
Film 12 (MDFT-12)
This course is designed for serious narrative filmmakers who have taken Film 11 or have equivalent experience. All aspects of the film making process are developed further. There is an opportunity for senior students to take on leadership roles and develop longer, more in-depth stories all through this media.
Theatre Company 11 (MDRTC11)
If you’ve been bitten by the acting bug in Drama 10, this course is for you. Continue to hone acting skills while becoming part of a theatre company by building a production from conception to final performance for a public audience at the end of semester. Some extra rehearsals will be required.
Musical Theatre 11/Vocal Music 11 (MMUTH11/YVPA-1EVM)
This course is designed for students with a keen interest in Musical Theatre. All aspects of this genre on the stage and behind the scenes are explored. This is a project-based course. Seniors will work together to develop a quality performance for the public at the end of the semester. Please Note: This is a course that requires commitment for successful completion. After school rehearsals in May and part of June are mandatory. COURSE NOTE: Students in Musical Theatre 11 will also study, and be registered in, Vocal Music 11 (YVPA-1EVM). Vocal Music 11 (YVPA-1EVM) The primary focus for this course is to grow confidence in the student’s individual and ensemble vocal music skills. Technical skills, strategies and health and safety issues will be explored and applied as students create, rehearse, and perform repertoire for a musical theatre project. *This course is paired with Musical Theatre 11 and is conducted outside the timetable.
