Trades Awareness Skills and Knowledge (TASK) is a 5 month, full time, hands-on program offered at EMCS in the second semester, in partnership with Camosun College. TASK teaches foundation skills in the areas of carpentry, electrical, plumbing, welding, automotive and sheet metal. Emphasis is on safety, practical skills, and on-the-job training. Industry certifications (eg: WHMIS, Fall Arrest, Confined Spaces Training and Construction Safety Training System (SCTS) are offered. A work experience component provides an opportunity to develop employability skills, gain insight into work place expectations, and may lead to a building trade apprenticeship. Students earn up to 24 high school credits, and 8 Camosun College credits upon successful completion. Age requirement: 15 years or older, preference given to senior students.
