UNIVERSITY OF VICTORIA, GUSTAVSON SCHOOL OF BUSINESS INFO SESSION (Mr. Phipps):

  • Wednesday, October 30th at lunch in the office seminar room.
  • UVIC Business School reps will be here to talk with students about the Bachelor of Commerce Business program.
  • Open to Grade 11 and 12 students.
  • Sign up on the bulletin board across from Mr. Phipps’ office.

TEEN MENTORS NEEDED (Mr. Phipps): We are looking for Grade 10 to 12 volunteers to be mentors for students at Saseenos Elementary School as part of the Big Brothers Big Sisters Teen Mentorship.  Make a difference in the life of a young student by spending one hour per week with a little buddy at Saseenos. Mentorship usually happens right after school on Friday so you don’t need to miss any class time.

YCI / GSA: Club meets Tuesdays at lunch in room 2033. Any students interested in creating social change are welcome! See Mr. Berlando or Ms. Williams for more information.

BAND (Ms. Parliament):  Mondays 3:20 – 4:20 pm. Wednesday & Fridays 7:45 – 8:35 am.

GISP (Global Intercultural Skills Program) (Ms. Williams):  Focus Block and Lunch as necessary.

GRAD COUNCIL (Ms. Williams): Thursdays @ lunch in room 2033.

LEADERSHIP (Mr. Powell and Ms. Verhoeven):  Thursdays 7:30 – 8:30 am.

CROSS COUNTRY (Ms. Hunter): The next Cross Country meet is Thursday, October 17th at Beaver Lake. All participants are to meet in the foyer at 2:30 pm.
Practices are held Tuesdays 3:20 – 4:20 pm.

SUPERFIT (Mr. Barrie):  Monday to Thursdays at lunch, Mondays after school until 4:30 pm, Wednesday mornings 7:45 – 8:40 am. After completing a weight room orientation, student will receive a card that will allow them to work out during these times.  Students who have registered in Super-fit and have not received a super-fit booklet need to sign-up for Mr. Barrie’s focus block.  Students can complete the weight room orientation during focus blocks.

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL (Ms. Dodd):
Junior Girls – practicing Wednesdays 3:20 – 5 pm and Fridays 2 – 4 pm.
Senior Girls – practicing Wednesdays 3:20 – 5 pm and Thursdays 3:20 – 5 pm.

CAR PASSES/PARKING PERMITS: Students need a new car pass for the 2019-20 school year.  Please see Mr. Lyall asap.

Information from the Career Centre

JDF FIRE/RESCUE CADET CAMP: For teens ages 15-18. March 16th – 21st 2020.
Students can contact the Career Centre for an application. Great opportunity for those students interested in a career as a firefighter.

FORUM FOR YOUNG CANADIANS: For any youth interested in Canadian politics and/or civically engaged in their communities. Application deadline for 2020 sessions is Saturday, November 30th 2019 @ 5:00 pm EST. Please see the Career Centre to sign up.

THE BRITISH COLUMBIA YOUTH PARLIAMENT: Application forms are in the Career Centre.  The deadline for these application to be delivered to the Career Center is October 24th, 2019.
Each year between December 27th to the 31st, 95 young people from across BC gather at the Legislative Chambers in Victoria for the BC Youth Parliament Session. This youth organization recognizes young people’s potential to lead and serve in the community. This forum helps students develop skills in leadership, organization, public speaking, and the parliamentary process.  Young people will have an opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals from across the province. There is a registration fee of $399.00.

AMBER ACADEMY: An after school program for elementary school students involving Choir, Art and Acting is looking for volunteer Instructor Assistants. Please see the Career Centre Volunteer Board in the Career Center to apply.

The staff at EMCS wishes you and your family a restful long weekend and a Happy Thanksgiving.  Classes return Tuesday, and Wednesday is our PAC meetings – come see what we’re all about!  Everyone Is Welcome!  We’ll be meeting at 6:30 in the seminar room beside the office.

The Jellyfish Project is coming to EMCS, Wednesday October 16th! Many thanks to our PAC, and Ms. Verhoeven, who have made this opportunity possible. ‘The Jellyfish Project Society’ is a non-profit organization that uses music, live performance, and learning resources to generate awareness and provide education on ocean sustainability, climate change and environmental stewardship. On October 16th, we will follow a special schedule to accommodate this presentation (please see it below “Important Dates”). Students will attend the assembly with their D Block teacher. Focus blocks will resume October 23rd.

Short-term Homestay families needed! We are looking for enthusiastic and caring families who are willing to host a Japanese student for 5 nights from October 25 to 30. Compensation is provided. Please see the attached PDF for more details.
